The Freiherr von Poschinger Glasmanufaktur zu
Frauenau is a business owned by the family of the Baron von Poschinger.
The family is one of the oldest families in Bavaria, and has
been mentioned in official documents since the 12th century in
connection with magistracies and estates of nobility. In 1547,
the family was given a coat of arms by Duke Albrecht V, which
is still in use today.
In 1568, the family acquired the Zadlershütte Glass Factory (Zwieselau) near Frauenau. Thus began the history of Poschingers as glassmakers and land owners in the Bavarian Forest, which continues still today. The current site of the factory was acquired in 1605. Over the centuries, the family has run glassworks throughout the Bavarian Forest in Spiegelhütte,
Buchenau, Oberzwieslau, and Theresienthal, all names well-known
in the history of glass manufacture.

Poschinger Factory at Frauenau
Glass from the Bavarian Forest flourished
and became famous with Classicism and later with Art Nouveau
production. Many artists and designers have worked with von Poschinger
to create world class glass of the highest quality. Poschinger
glasses have adorned the tables and residences of many kings'
and princes' homes. Several courts of Bavarian and French kings
had glassware supplied by the Poschinger factories. The Czars'
court in St. Petersburg in
addition to the courts of King Ludwig III of Bavaria and King
Friedrich August III of Saxony enjoyed Poschinger drinking glasses.
For their entertaining, sets of finest crystal glasses were designed
and custom made at the Poschinger factory.
